Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement Classes

Awareness Through Movement ® (ATM) consists of a gentle, verbally-guided series of exercises focused around a fundamental movement. Through these basic exercises, or "lessons", the student is enabled to find the most natural way to access that particular movement, resulting in a huge improvement of movement possibility and a much more "economical" use of the body.

May : Continuing the Focus on the Hip joints and their relationship to the spine.

Dates: 5/14, 5/21, 5/28

Here are some thoughts on how I think about the way the hip joints and their function relate to you as a completely functioning person.

·        the spine must integrate with the pelvis in a way that allows the hips to glide easily in their sockets when the legs move

·        the hip is a ball and socket joint that must attach to the pelvis in a very particular way for the legs to work well

·        the spine, hips, and legs must function as a system or the muscles in the pelvic and groin areas can be stressed

The Feldenkrais Method approaches your pelvic, groin and hip pain systematically and realizes that faulty interactions between various/related parts of the body cause strain on the entire system. For example, by contributing to an altered position of the pelvis and hip, a rigid ankle or old knee injury could be the cause of hip pain. These lessons will help clarify what may be limiting your hip function, so that functional relationships can be restored.
